Your recipes stay on your device. Komora sends a small amount of anonymous usage data so I can see which parts of the app are used, and you can turn it off at any time. There is no account and no sign-in.

Where your recipes live

Everything you write — recipes, ingredients, steps, collections, photos — is stored locally on your device and is never uploaded. It works the same on a plane as it does at home.

This also means I cannot see your recipes, recover them for you, or sync them between your devices. Your device backup is what protects them.

Usage data

Komora records what kind of thing you did, not what you wrote: for example that a recipe was saved, that a pasted list was split into steps, or that cook mode was finished — with counts such as how many steps a recipe has. Alongside that go your device model, iOS version, app version, language and country.

It never includes recipe titles, ingredients, steps, notes or photos, and no name, email address, precise location or advertising identifier. Your IP address is not stored.

The data is linked to a random identifier for your device, not to you by name. It is processed for me by Amplitude, Inc., an analytics provider, and stored in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. I use it only to understand how Komora is used and where people get stuck.

To turn it off, open About in the app and switch off “Share anonymous usage”. Nothing more is sent from that moment. Because the data isn’t tied to your name, I can’t find your part of it individually.

Camera and photos

Komora asks for the camera only when you choose to add a cover photo to a recipe, and for your photo library only when you pick an existing picture. Those images are saved with the recipe on your device and go nowhere else. If you decline either permission, everything except cover photos still works.

Third parties

No advertising, no tracking across other apps or websites, and no data sold. Amplitude, described above, is the only third party that receives anything. The app’s other open-source libraries run entirely on your device and send nothing.

Children

Komora is rated 4+. The usage data is the same for everyone and contains nothing that identifies a person, child or adult.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date. Send privacy questions to boredarthur@gmail.com.
